Galaxy

Hello everyone! Today's a non-nail post but it uses nail polish, so it's relevant in some way right? :P Hurricane Sandy is slowly approaching NY, which is keeping me home so I finally found time to vamp up this wooden jewelry box I purchased from an art store in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It's a plain wooden box that I got for $4. I planned on doing something but then I decided I wanted to make it a galaxy box. I only did the top of the box, and I'm considering on whether I should do the entire box or not.

It started with this plain box like this:

Then, using a black acrylic paint, I painted the whole box black to create the base for the galaxy.

Using a number of polishes (I will list below) and a make up sponge, I created the galaxy look on the top of the box.

Polishes I used:
Cover Girl Boundless Color - Disco Dazzle
Essie Pink-A-Boo
Klassicolor (same exact polish as Kleancolor) - Aurora
Pa Nail Color - A125
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear - Fireberry Red
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear - Purple Gala
SaQu - 635
Wet N Wild Coloricon - The Crown is Mine
Zoya - Crystal

Thanks for stopping by and hope you like this post! :)

Memories of You.....

Hi everyone, sorry for the late post! >__< I hope you all are doing swell, I know it's been a while since I've last posted. I have done a few swatches for you guys, hopefully I'll be able to resize them sometime when I'm available. And I haven't felt like doing my nails since my nails were breaking and they're on the short side. I'm hoping it'll grow out soon.

Today's post is something I created because this day is a day to remember for me since today was the passing of my aunt. I've cried and cried but I wanted something that would allow me to remember her while still doing something I love, nail polish. My aunt was like my second mother and she treated me like her own daughter. Her daughter, my cousin, is a few months older than me but I feel like we're sisters and we're the closest family member in our entire family. I will always remember the late nights/early mornings that she would wake up and tuck my cousin and I in whenever I slept over at my grandma's house whenever they visited. I will remember the times in Atlanta when she would give me more medicine to take because of my coughing. My aunt and my two cousins were the only family members living in Atlanta while the rest of my family is in the Northeast. So whenever she came, our entire family would come together and she was the piece that connected my entire family together. Without her, our families lived their own lives in different homes. What hurts is that I can't be by my cousin's side, since she's in Atlanta and I'm here in New York. However, my parents are there so I hope she feels a part of me being with her in them. It hurts to see my aunt go, but I know that she isn't suffering as she was during her time here, since she had to battle throat cancer twice. I'm sad that she is no longer with us but I know she's in a better place watching down on my cousin, her brother and the rest of my family, smiling down and taking care of us.

With this, I decided that I wanted to create a nail polish of some that are precious to me, to remind me of her. And I named it Memories of You. Gu Gu, (this is what I call her in Chinese), this is for you and I hope you like it. I love and miss you♥ You'll always be in my heart.

My cousin Sean, my aunt, my grandma and my cousin Pauline

I've layered 2 coats of Memories of You on top of 2 coats of Essie Licorice for this manicure.

Memories of You is a franken which consists of:

• Wet N Wild Clear
• Essie Licorice
• Clarins 230 (a little bit)
• China Glaze Bermuda Breakaway
• OPI Movin' Out
• Star Gazer 308
• Cult Nails Unicorn Puke
Unicorn Puke, Movin' Out, Bermuda Breakaway and Essie Licorice were the main components of this franken.

I love the results of this franken and this is definitely a great reminder of my aunt. The multicolored flakies represents the memories and happiness of my aunt and the dark base represents the sadness of losing my aunt.

I hope you love this polish as much as I do.

Thanks for stopping by,
Katherine

That's Berry Dazzling!

November 21, 2010.

Here's my second franken named That's Berry Dazzling! It's a berry pink creme with glitters :) The swatch is 2 coats and 1 coat of top coat. I think that the formula is a little thick so I'll have to add like 1-3 drops of nail polish thinner. But I really like it !! :D

Here's what I used to make That's Berry Dazzling!
  • Wet N Wild - Dream Poppy
  • Wet N Wild - Hallucinate
  • Wet N Wild - White
  • Medusa's Makeup Glitter Eyeshadow in AK47
hope you enjoyed & more frankens coming~

Glitter Blues

November 20, 2010

I got my monthly magazine today and I saw this promotion. I thought I'd share this with everyone.

To get your free Orly, you can either bring the December/January issue of Seventeen magazine or you can print out the coupon and bring it to a participating ULTA store. You may receive one bottle of Orly Nail Lacquer of your choice of Shine, Oh Cabana Boy or It's Up To Blue. Only 1 per person. This deal is valid starting from November 23, 2010 until supplies last.

And on another nail note, I created my first franken in a while! :) I named it Glitter Blues because of the color as well as its significance in that I haven't made one in a while. :P It's a medium cornflower blue jelly with turquoise and gold glitters. For the swatch, I used 3 coats and 1 coat of top coat. The formula was a bit opaque, so the third coat gave good coverage and the bottle color. :) I really like this!! ♥

Here's a list of what I used to create Glitter Blues
  • Wet N Wild - Hallucinate
  • Wet N Wild - Clear
  • Wet N Wild - White
  • China Glaze - Bermuda Breakaway
  • China Glaze Turned Up Turquoise
  • Medusa's Makeup glitter eyeshadow in Liberace
hope you enjoyed,
<3katherine

P.S. - more frankens coming~ :P

I want your Blood and I want your Revenge

There's a Halloween party at my college tomorrow so I did this yesterday night. I HAD THE CRAZIEST DAY TODAY! So if you care to know please read on, if not you can skip ahead to the pictures. So my costume, (I'm going to be Lady Gaga LOL don't kill or hate or bash me pleasethanks[: ) which I ordered on Monday was supposed to be delivered today to me. I waited and waited until I decided to CALL them because the only email I ever got from Party City was a "thank you for your order." So it turns out that one of my items in my order is not available so they DIDN'T ship out my order AT ALL. -_____- I didn't find out until today and I need my costume for tomorrow night. If I still waited, my order would've been shipped and received by MONDAY. DUDE HALLOWEEN'S OVER BY THEN. So I'm waiting for my refund and in need of a costume because I already have the blonde wig. I looked online and found a Ricky's location that has the one I originally wanted in my size too! I'm rushing over there and got the costume. I missed my train by a few seconds and as I'm waiting for the next one which as been over 10 minutes, there's an announcement saying that the B and D train are being rerouted onto the F line due to debris on the track (IN THE TUNNEL?!) FML. So then I had to take the train uptown to transfer to the N, take the N and had to walk home. UGH. What a crazy day. -____-

Anyways, onto my Halloween nails. Inspired by a tumblr picture I saved a while back, blood drip nails. I admit I had a lot of difficulty with this because even the results doesn't make it seem like it's blood but rather red slime lol.

I used: 3 coats of OPI Bubble Bath as the base and Wet N Wild Red Red for the 'blood' since I don't have a deep dark red and plus I don't own that many reds.

left hand - my favorite is my ring finger♥

left hand including thumb

right hand (which I don't like as much as my left hand lol obviously since I'm right handed)

hope you enjoyed and I'll post up my costume in my next post ;)

Oh Bunny, you're darn adorable♥

Today, I PRESENT TO YOU A NAIL ART POST! YAY! I know you all have been craving for nail art and I finally got inspired to do something after looking over my folder of nail art. I had tons of fun with this too.

First my mani was OPI Dating a Royal. I used 2 coats of DAR. You can see my nail broke on the side of my ring finger <:( boo. The formula was a bit water-y in my opinion for a creme, which surprised me but I totally dig the color! (excuse my lingo :P)

Next, for my other fingers (excluding ring) I used China Glaze Dorothy Who (1 coat) over it and then 1 coat of Seche top coat. For my ring finger I made a BUNNY! :) Isn't it adorable? This was my first attempt at a bunny and trust me, it came out the best the FIRST time and not the second or third time, odd.. But anyways I used OPI Alpine Snow for the white bunny, Wet N Wild Tickled Pink for the bunny's ears and nose and LA Colors Black Nail Art for the eyes. Then you wait a while for it to try because trust me you don't want to put top a few seconds later or else you'll smear your nail art. This happened to me a lot so wait a "considerable" amount of time before you apply so it doesn't smear and you have pretty darn cute nail art! =)

Tomorrow is the last day to enter my giveaway, which ends at 11:59 EST (NYC). So hurry and enter in! :)

hope you enjoyed,
<3katherine

PS: I've got it on slow picture tutorial (I'm not good with speaking on video) for those who want to try this! :)

Featured Nails

Today I will post about nails, obviously, but not mine! :P My cousin Pauline came in last week for a few days to celebrate with the rest of my family for my grandmother's birthday. And of course, knowing I love nail polish and seeing my personal Facebook nail album, she wanted me to do them. So today's nails and toes will be called "featured nails" where sometimes/rarely I will post nails not of my own nails but what I did for my family. I've only done nails for my family; my two cousins and my mom (but I only do her toes).

Pauline wanted rainbow toes ;P However, this process took very long to decide which colors! And luckily my mom helped her out. I added glitter stars on her big toes but some of them came off during the night. Can you guess which colors they are? (answers are at the bottom of this post if you give up!)

For Pauline's nails, she picked out Wet N Wild's Tickled Pink (2 coats) and then I used some nail stickers on her ring and thumb nails which has a bow, one rhinestone and one pearl. I also lined the ends of her nails with silver glitter for the other nails.

- Essie Dramatic Drachmas (2 coats)
- Wet N Wild Dream Poppy (2 coats)
- Wet N Wild Blazed (2 coats)
- Wet N Wild Sunny Side (2 coats)
- OPI Banana Bandanna (3 coats)
- Essie Pretty Edgy (2 coats)
- Brucci Gianna's Rockin Blue (2 coats)
- Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Calypso Blue (2 coats)
- China Glaze Flying Dragon (2 coats)
- Confetti Belle of the Ball (2 coats)

Rite Aid Mini Haul Again!

Another Rite Aid mini haul, but I'm really liking the drug store brands! They're cheap and they're good! This time, I was able to spend less than $10 at Rite Aid, the other few times recently, I've been buying Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure. :P

Wet N Wild Dream Poppy
medium coral pink. The swatch is 2 coats and no top coat. Amazing and beautiful. Easy application and good formula. I'm definitely getting more Wet N Wild's! :)

Wet N Wild Red Red
it's a medium red. Cosmo Girl's Kiss of Approval Beauty Award Winner. It's a bit darker irl compared to the swatch pictures but my camera and I did the best we could to get close to it! The first swatch picture shows 1 coat and no top coat - very little sign of vnl. The second swatch picture shows 2 coats and no top coat - just to be sure of no sign of vnl. I love the formula and it was very easy to work with and apply. I can definitely see why it got the approval from Cosmo Girl. But isn't Cosmo Girl no longer creating any magazines? I used to subscribe to them and my subscription wasn't finished and they sent me something saying that they aren't producing any more so that the rest of my subscription would be moved over to Seventeen Magazine. Huh.

Brucci Kathy's Baby Blues
light baby blue creme. The swatch is 2 coats and no top coat. I love this color and it was VERY easy to apply. I'm really liking Brucci. And they restocked on Heidi's Glow in case anyone wanted to pick it up if you're near my neighborhood, but I picked one up for my 100 followers and belated 1 year blogaversary.

A reader said that Brucci isn't B3F. I looked at the ingredients and I only saw Formaldehyde which is found in nail hardeners. But I didn't see DBP or Toluene, so I'm not really sure but I checked MUA and someone said they aren't B3F either. But I emailed Brucci asking them to clarify for me, HOPEFULLY they'll get back to me and not ignore me. (update: One person responded to me and said she'll "transfer" me to their Brucci NY for a reply. Nothing yet though)

83 FOLLOWERS?! I'm really happy I've gotten this far because honestly, I didn't think many people would read my nail blog. :x I thought I'd be the only one rambling to myself lol! But with all your support, I continued to blog more and it's been more than a year and it's hitting almost 14 months since I've started. Share my blog if you'd like and hopefully when I hit 100 followers, everyone is welcomed to enter into my very first 100 followers + 1 year blogaversary giveaway! (which means I have to start buying the giveaway stuff :P)

Franken #4

My last franken for now~ I wanted to avoid dark colors since I've made 2 black frankens. You're probably tired of seeing frankens right? :P Well rest assured, I won't be frankening for a bit. :)

Fraken #4
  • 1/2 a bottle of OPI Natural Nail Strengthener (clear)
  • 1/3 a bottle of Wet N Wild Tickled Pink
  • some amount of Meerkat fyrinnae
  • some amount of Gilded Wings fyrinnae
a dusty grayed out pink with purple and subtle gold shimmer. The swatch is 2 coats and no top coat. As I was mixing tickled pink with meerkat, it came out to resembled OPI Lucky Lucky Lavender except there was a slight silver shimmer in it. So then I wanted it to be different compared to Lucky Lucky Lavender (no shimmer in the polish) so I decided to add gilded wings which gave it a gold bronze shimmer also. :) the whole franken was hard to take a picture of because my camera couldn't pick it up as good. but I love it!! Please excuse the dry hands in the swatch picture, I've been doing a lot of catching up with my nail stuff! The last picture is a close up shot of the gold bronze shimmer.

another unnamed franken, and suggestions for a name are welcomed!
I hope you enjoyed and aren't tired of frankens! :P

Quick Mini Haul: Walgreens

I went to Walgreens to check if there were any sales or discounts on any nail polishes and found none. But I did pick up 5 bottles of Wet N Wild and 3 of them I've been eyeing and debating about for a while. I finally had the guts to pick them up, buy them so I could try them.

There are no swatches for the clear and the black since I used them only to franken with and everyone knows how it comes out.

Wet N Wild Tickled Pink
a very light baby pink. The swatch is 2 coats and no top coat. I'm not a BIG fan of Wet N Wild but this one made me have more faith in them. I really love the color as well as the formula. It wasn't too thick or too thin, and it was easy to apply. Not as easy as Essie, OPI and China Glaze but close to it. :)

Wet N Wild Sunny Side Up
a yellow orange creme. The swatch is 2 coats and no top coat. Easy to apply and it wasn't thick either. This is the first orange bottle of nail polish I have. And I don't think it's that bad and that oranges aren't that bad with my skintone.

Wet N Wild Blazed
a strawberry coral. The swatch is 3 coats and no top coat because the formula was a little thin. But it applied well and easy and it comes out really nice. :)

I hope you enjoyed,

Franken #2 ~ Gold Mine

Another franken! :) I couldn't resist after making my first franken. :) For this franken, I used:
  • half a bottle of Wet N Wild Clear
  • 1/4 of a bottle of Wet N Wild Black
  • some (again no measuring instrument) of Biker Chic fyrinnae
  • some of Gilded Wings fyrinnae
And here's the end product:

Gold Mine
black base with subtle blue and gold/bronze shimmer. It reminds me of the universe hehe. The swatch is 1 coat on the index and middle fingers and 2 coats on the ring and pinky fingers. It looks thicker and better with 2 coats but I wanted to compare because it looked full at 1 coat without flash. This swatch is taken with flash because it shows the shimmer more. You can't really see it that normally. The name comes from my boyfriend who I asked for suggestions on a name. I think it suits the polish well. :)

I hope you enjoyed,
<3katherine
